On Sunday 16 January 2022 Anchor’s CEO Heidi Tucker and Partnership Lead Lauren Gordon, completed The Rip Swim‘s first official Double Rip – a 7km crossing from Pt Lonsdale to Pt Nepean and back!
They were part of a five member team who undertook this exciting challenge and helped to raise awareness and donations towards youth homelessness and Anchor’s youth services.
Ms Tucker said: “What struck me was that here I was with my swim buddy (who had never done a deep-water swim before and was terrified of wildlife!!) heading out into the ocean and as a swimmer not being able to see much that was ahead of us. We were able to completely trust our paddler Charlie to navigate our course over to Pt Nepean and back. We knew his job was to set our direction and keep us safe. Charlie also had a whole flotilla of boats and paddlers to follow on our journey. While our training and work meant we were in the best shape for the day it takes a team effort to realise your goals! It was a privilege for me to be involved in something I love on such a perfect day”.
Heidi and her swim buddy Andrea completed the RIP in an impressive 2.06 hours and a total of $1,231.50 has been raised so far for Anchor.
Many thanks to everyone for their support including team members Mark from The Salvation Army, Lara and Heather, Andrea, Charlie and Rip Swim Director Grant Siedle who helped achieve such a great result.
