The Anchor family of members, volunteers and donors are vital to Anchor's ability to meet client and service needs. There is a range of ways to help make a difference, either as individuals, companies or community groups.

New members, volunteers and donors are always welcome.

Become an Anchor Member

For information and details about individual, family, group and corporate Anchor memberships contact the Business Manager, Anchor Inc, on Tel 03-9801-1999.

A downloadable form will also be available from the site soon!.

Become an Anchor Volunteer

The willingness, commitment and give gift of time provided volunteers is regarded as precious because volunteers help Anchor to make a difference.

Volunteers nominate the type of support they wish to provide, the frequency and timing. Induction and training are provided and volunteers also have access to ongoing support and advice from Anchor staff 24 hours per day, 7 days per week.

There are a number of ways to volunteer with Anchor:

  • Foster Care Volunteers

Some volunteers become foster carers and provide safe and caring home environments for children placed in foster care.

Foster Carers are vitally important people in the lives of the children and young people they foster.  Whether providing short term of long term foster care, the safe and loving home-based care they provide is especially important to the welfare and positive life experiences of their foster children. Training is provided along with round-the-clock access to Anchor Foster Care staff.

It is also possible to volunteer as a 'Carer for a Carer'.   These invaluable volunteers assist foster carers in practical ways, e.g. by assisting with cleaning, transport to appointments, child-minding, educational tutoring or simple life skills training.  Their support increases the carers' abilities to provide loving support for the children they foster.

  • Community Care Volunteers

Volunteer Lead Tenants are integral to the sucess of  Community Care Programs for young people experiencing homelessness.   Lead Tenants are volunteers who provide housing support for young homeless people unable to live at home for any reason. Lead Tenants share a house with young, homeless Anchor clients and mentor them.   Training is provided and ongoing access to Anchor Community Care staff.

  • Voluntary Administrative Support

From time to time there are opportunities for volunteers to assist with administrative support.  Practical, administrative volunteer support is a fantastic way for people with available time to donate to support Anchor.

To find out more about joining the Anchor family of volunteers telephone 03-9760 6400 or email admin@anchor.org.au

Other ways to help include:

  • Join the Anchor Staff

From time to time Anchor needs to employ new staff. Employment opportunities are advertised on this website and in newspapers. Occasional or regular opportunities for volunteers with administrative skills are also advertised.

  • Undertake a Student Placement at Anchor

Practical placements for students in a range of related TAFE and University courses are available each year. Normally they are arranged through Course Co-ordinators. Please enquire with your Course Co-ordinator or contact Anchor Head Office on Tel 61-3-9760 6400 for further information.

  • Become a Volunteer Member of the Board of Management

The Board of Management oversees all Anchor’s operations including professional conduct, service and transparent financial management.  Details about Board membership and nomination forms for the Board of Management can be obtained by telephoning 03-9760 6400.

Become an Anchor Donor

Anchor is a not-for-profit organisation and a registered charity, so all donations over $2 are tax deductible

Financial donations help defray Anchor’s costs, some of which cannot be predicted yet they impact on Anchor’s budget significantly. An example is the recent rises in petrol costs which are beyond Anchor's control but impact on resources.

Public donations non-perishable food (within their use-by date) and and new clothing help ensure Anchor services can continue and expanded to meet the growing level of demand for Anchor’s services in the Eastern Metropolitan Region.

Ways to help Anchor through donations include:

  • Donate prepaid petrol cards

Anchor supports people living in a 2,642 km2 radius from Box Hill and Mitcham to Warburton and Healesville across to Belgrave and as far south as Rowville, Lysterfield, Scoresby and Wantirna to the south so petrol costs are always significant.  Pre-paid petrol card donations are a practical way to support Anchor services and programs.

  • Donate prepaid phone cards

Pre-paid telephone cards enable homeless people and those at risk of homelessness to keep in touch with Anchor staff.  They are invaluable.

  • New clothing and non-perishable food donations

New clothing and donations of non-perishable food items (within their use-by date), toiletries and sanitary aids are always needed.  Donations should be made at Anchor head office at Lilydale. Please note that pick-ups are not possible because of Anchor's limited resources.

For more information about these forms of donating please telephone 03-9801 1999 or email admin@anchor.org.au

  • Secure on-line donations

It is now possible to make periodic, on-line donations.  They will be a convenient and effective way to provide regular financial support to Anchor at intervals selected by donors and will assist Anchor to plan ahead.  When available and once the on-line payment details are completed, there will be nothing more for you to do.  If you have any queries in relation to on-line donations to Anchor, please telephone 03-97801 1999 or email fiona.nicholls@anchor.org.au

  • Payroll deductions

Some people arrange an automatic payroll donation to Anchor with their company Pay Office. This is arranged with the donor's Pay Office but it is helpful if Anchor is also advised about the frequency, payment dates and amounts by the donor.

  • Donations by cheque

Donations by cheque should be made payable to:  Anchor Inc
    Please forward cheques to:

    Donations
    Anchor Inc
    PO Box 4616
    Knox City Centre    Vic  3152
    Australia

  • Christmas Gifting

Asking family and friends to make a donation to Anchor, instead of a personal gift is a kind and generous way to support Anchor's work.

  • Leave a bequest

Willed bequests are special and generous ways to ensure Anchor’s work continues.   Legal advice should be sought to ensure bequests are nominated appropriately.
