Thanks CommBank!

When our kinship care team met 15 year old “Nick” he told us about ongoing pain and discomfort in his back and neck. His carers were unable to fund the chiropractic treatment that would help him live an active life, causing stress to the entire family.
With thanks to funding from the 2018 Commonwealth Bank Centenary Grants, we were able to support him and his kinship carers to give Nick access to ongoing chiropractor appointments. Nick now reports his back and neck are feeling much better and he is so thankful for the support he has received!
It is only with additional donations that we can support families like Nicks. If you’d like to help Anchor continue our work, check out our website.

Kinship Carer day out

Another fun day at “the office” for some of our staff! Today was the Kinship carers turn, this time attending Inflatable World Ringwood. School holiday activities can be pricey, so we love to help our families by hosting events like this. Thanks to Yarra Ranges Council’s community grant for making this possible.
If you know someone that is currently caring for a child, they may like to join our Kinship Carer Network for support and social outings to connect with other carers.

First Aid training for carers and staff

Thanks to Tammy from Accredited First Aid Courses for a fantastic day of training! In addition to the valuable skills and knowledge gained, it was great for staff and carers to come together to connect.

Youth and Child & Family strategic goal update

Our 2018- 2021 Strategic Plan acknowledges the ongoing need for safe, nurturing homes for children and young people throughout our community.

Anchor is proud to be part of the Brighter Futures program, with our Community Connectors building networks to support young people leaving care.  Our Youth Development and Child & Family teams continue to support local individuals and families, working together to achieve the best outcomes.

We are still seeing a need for carers, with boys aged 10+ being over-represented in those children that can’t be placed in safe homes. If you would like to learn more about how you can help, please check out our website: http://www.anchor.org.au/become-a-carer/

“In Your Own Words”

If you are a young person with an out-of-home care experience, the Commission for Children & Young People wants to hear from you. This is an opportunity for Victorian children and young people to share their stories to create positive change to the care system.

Kinship Care support groups

Do you know that Anchor coordinates Kinship Care groups in Knox and the Yarra Ranges? Thanks to the Knox City Council and Yarra Ranges Council, we offer Kinship Carers within Melbourne’s Outer Eastern Suburbs the chance to meet other Carers, share stories, and enjoy a great time out! All Kinship Carers are welcome- for more information, including upcoming events, please call Anchor on 8761 9040.

Kinship Care- NFW2018

For children who can’t live with their own immediate family, the preferred option is sometimes to live with someone they know, such as an extended family member. This is known as “Kinship Care”, and the need is often urgent and unforeseen.
Anchor can offer a variety of assistance for these families, including local support groups and training opportunities; if you would like to know more, please contact our Kinship Care team on 8761 9040 or via admin.anchor@anchor.org.au.
Just another way we’re working towards ‘Stronger Families, Stronger Communities’.
